Holiday Networking Tips

November 19, 2009

I recently attended a Chamber event that focused on successful holiday networking tips. There were some very interesting pieces of advice, some of which were new and some of which were reminders.

Here are a few:

  • Plan ahead by taking enough business cards and have them easily accessible, such as in your coat pocket. For women, a smaller purse or a special business card holder will work.
  • Place your name tag high up on your right shoulder. As you extend your right hand to introduce yourself, your name tag will be visible for an easy name and face “connection.”
  • Look for the influencer in the room – the person who appears to know everyone there.
  • After you have introduced yourself to new people, become the influencer.
  • Introduce the more powerful/respected people properly. For example, “I’d like to introduce you to our mayor, Tommy Bob Jackson. This is Joe Smith, one of our fine employees.”
  • Food or drink should be carried in the left hand so that your right hand is free to make introductions.
  • Good posture is important

The last tip was one of the most imporant ones for any networking situation: do not forget to follow up with any correspondence you committed to or that is appropriate.

All About Who You Know…

November 13, 2009

When was the last time you searched for a particular vendor for a specific need? For me, it was this morning. My search got me thinking about social media and how it has affected us as a society. All I have to do is post what I need, and the referrals start appearing! To me, a personal referral means so much more than a Google search. It means credibility, responsibility, and trust.

Let us recommend some vendors to you through LinkedIn. If you are not connected to us via LinkedIn yet you can visit our company page and click on our profiles to add us as connections.  Sometimes it IS all about who you know…

Kiplinger’s Recovery Index

November 9, 2009

As we all focus on the economy, job growth, and new sales, it is encouraging to find supporting evidence claiming that the recession is indeed ending. According to Kiplinger Magazine, “layoffs tapered off in October, confirming that the recession is over and that the economic growth – though spotty – has resumed, according to Kiplinger’s Recovery Index. First-time claims for jobless benefits fell to their lowest level since January.” Read More…

Kiplinger’s Recovery Index uses 6 key indicators of a recovering economy including interest rate spread, existing home sales, jobless claims, consumer confidence, retail sales, and durable goods. Using these factors, Kiplinger claims that the recession is over.

Wouldn’t it be great if all of the time and attention in running a leaner business and our focus on continuing marketing and maintaining a high level of ongoing customer service, coupled with the report above kicked off a prosperous 2010?

On behalf of the CodePartners team, we thank you for your business and for your continued support. During these trying times we have not compromised in the service or support of our customers. To the contrary, we have been striving to improve the service and support of our valued resources.

Why Executives Are Nervous About the Next Economic Upswing

In a recent survey of economists conducted by the National Association of Business Economists, the consensus was that the recession is over. Another survey of 200 large companies conducted by Forbes tells how executives are dealing with the economic upswing that is on its way. After cutting costs during the recession, including cuts in employment and recruiting efforts, executives wonder if they have been over-aggressive in their short-term thinking.
