At CodePartners, we work with the best Intacct and Sage Business Partners in the channel. Not every firm employs development resources, so CodePartners stands ready to make those capabilities available to everyone. By working with us, business partners enjoy the ability to provide additional services "to deliver the last mile" of technology to their prospects, or they benefit by enhancing implementations already in place with existing customers. Luckily, I get the opportunity to visit with many of these business partners in the course of a week, and I always learn something from every conversation.
Last week, I visited with a valuable business partner customer about the differences between projects, staff augmentation services, and knowledge access agreements. CodePartners provides these three deliverables to business partners, and each varies slightly from the other. The end goal for each looks the same - a happy Intacct or Sage customer able to do more work with less effort!
We engage for project work on an as-needed basis. A business partner’s end user client company describes a need, and that business partner shares it with a CodePartners Business Analyst informally or through a written specification they may have drafted. Based on our communications and a review of the specification document, we create and price a high-level design for the business partner to review and present to his client. Normally, we price our projects so that the business partner can achieve a 35% to 50% gross margin. Once the end user client company agrees to the business partner's proposed price and our mutual design, we begin development upon receipt of the required partial prepayment. Because the scope and price are fixed, all parties know in advance their return from and investment in the engagement.
Staff augmentation engagements allow a business partner to proceed as if they have a fully managed development resource team on staff. For one monthly price, a business partner receives a development resources commitment from CodePartners for a fixed amount of time. These resources may be applied to projects, testing, design, and some implementation assignments. Both the supply and price are fixed, which allows the business partner to staff development expertise without the recruiting, payroll, fixed asset, or occupancy costs normally associated with full time resources.
Knowledge access agreements give business partners preferred access to business analysts for a low monthly price. For over 15 years, I have enjoyed being able to walk down the hall and ask a development resource a very technical "under the hood" question on Intacct or Sage. These are "what if?" questions and "how to?" questions directed to experienced Business Analysts who have worked with hundreds of business partners to complete thousands of projects over the years. In other words, we help business partners provide a higher level consulting experience to their client companies by tapping into knowledge gained from outside the existing client base. This value accrues to the business partner without the normal human resource costs of acquiring and developing the talent, which requires a significant investment. Brainstorming like this solves problems and identifies opportunities that help convert prospects into clients or make existing client relationships stronger and stickier. It's like having a very experienced, high end resource at a fraction of the cost.
